Why do diesel engines need different oil?
Diesel engines operate under higher compression and heat than gasoline engines, producing more soot and acidic byproducts. Diesel motor oil is formulated with stronger detergent and dispersant additives to handle these conditions. Using gasoline motor oil in a diesel engine does not provide adequate protection and can cause accelerated engine wear.
